We wanted to go to see Saint Tropez. We wanted to see if it lived up to the hype of the tourist destination for the wealthy. Not surprisingly we found it was not OUR place. It is beautiful along the water. But many of the beaches are lined with private bars and beach clubs and the hills are covered with gated mansions. In between is a small village that was neither clean nor quaint. The one beach we went to was away from the bars, but it was full of rubbish and leaves. We, being beach snobs from Hawaii, did not stay long.
We went back to Saint Maxime. It was everything that we expected from this area. The village was full of winding streets of colorful buildings. Each had a shop or restaurant inside. The marina is full of yachts and sailboats. The beaches were beautiful.
