Dinosaurs, Animals, Gems, and Bugs--Natural History Museum For the WIN!

We continue our exploration if our Nation's Capital. This week we went to another Smithsonian museum--The National Museum of Natural History.

We quickly learned that the Museum of Natural History was a perfect place for our family. It had all of the things we enjoy most: Gems, Dinosaurs, animals, and places to learn. We spent several hours there and could have been there even longer! The exhibits were done thoroughly and expertly. Each gallery we spent time admiring, reading and learning. And as we walked to other galleries they were just as well done!

It was fun to see some of the details both Muggles have been learning about this last few weeks in a way that was tactile, colorful, and in-depth. For Lucky Dragon (thanks to watching Will Smith's Earth and the volcano in Tonga) he has been asking detailed questions about the Earth's crust, planets, the size of the Sun, etc. It was so much fun to walk through the gallery about plate tectonics, planets, meteors etc. For Koala Bear, she was so excited to see all the animals in the hibernation and adaptation section. She has been learning so much about that at school and this helped give a visual to that learning.

What a tremendous opportunity to be here and further education in an amazing way.

We loved the GEM section of the museum. Because we all love gems. It was fun to not only see all the of the gems from around the world, but see how they are made and the science behind them.

I thought it was cool to see what a rough diamond looks like compared to a cut diamond.

IT was also amazing to see the way some rocks hold bio-florescence  that illuminate. Nature truly does some amazing things.

Lady Hiva and Koala Bear were able to run into one of our favorite missionaries serving right now while they were at the Air and Space Museum. So thankful for a chance to have our kids see him sacrifice and serve others.

We had a chance to eat at two different Turkish restaurants during this week. We had pide, manti, dolmus, kebab, hunkar beyendi, and baklava. This brought back so many memories! We were able to get some fresh kaymak and honey. Lady Hiva and I both have missed that delicious snack!

As we were shopping, we were so happy to see the influence of Utah everywhere. We saw Chef Shamy butter and trampolines that were made in Logan, UT! Makes life feel closer.

Below you can see my new gym buddy. She loves to come to the gym with me and she will walk on the treadmill next to me while I run. Or she will lift weights while I lift weights! I hope she always loves to be active. I also love her chatter during the entire experience.
