Trying to Survive the Utah Winter

It is January. January in Utah. Cold and dreary....haha. How is that for an macabre outlook? But we are trying to make the best of it! That means we become creative in what we do. Most of it indoors.

We have gone to the indoor pools, those are the favorite trips for Lucky Dragon and Koala Bear. They never want to leave, even if they are so tired they get emotional and lethargic. Lucky Dragon is so great at swimming, which means he can go down the "big scary slide" all by himself. At first he wanted to go with me. We tried that once, then the next time I sat down as if we were going together and instead of going with him, I "let him go" by himself. He thought it was great and wanted to go again! And Again...and again. What a lesson in trying to do something hard. It is scary at first, and sometimes you need a 'boost' but then you realize you can do it and even though it may be hard, you succeed!

We have played lots of Legos, even Koala Bear will sit and put towers of blocks together. She gets so excited to see her products 'finished'. Lucky Dragon is becoming more and more creative as well. He makes houses, cars and loves to make things to "hold his treasures." I was sitting with them the other day and decided to make a replica of our home. I thought it turned out well. Lucky Dragon thought that it was not complete without Christmas lights. So he added them. So my little guy...just in case you were wondering.

How does it compare?

We have colored, shopped and even enjoyed having Aunt Heather here to play games and join us at the dentist.
Lucky Dragon is becoming quite the artist. He drew this self portrait with his new favorite hat from Hawaii.

He told me that he did not need me to stay...he "is brave"

I also took them to the Thanksgiving Point Butterfly Biosphere exhibit. There have been signs for it for almost a year so I thought it had been open for awhile, but apparently we showed up on the opening day!!! So it was BUSY.

We had a blast exploring all the new slides and activities. I love that Thanksgiving Point tries to do hands-on learning experiences. Our two little Muggles were especially liking all of the exotic insects they have on display. We spent a majority of our time looking at them. Koala Bear will point and say, " 'Pyda!" (Spider) when she sees them.  It was a perfect place to get out their "Wiggles." We never made it into the Butterfly section because the lines were too long. Helpful hint to all of you, you have to get timed tickets to enter the Museum, so go online and book a time beforehand. Once you enter, have someone stand in the line for the biosphere while the kids play because there is a second line once you enter.

She was so good to answer ALL of his many questions
