The Power of Niagara

We realized that we had a few more days unscheduled, so we went on another road trip! This trip started out with a visit to Niagara Falls. We drove up and stayed on the New York side. Part of that was due to Canada's requirements for entering with COVID restrictions.

We woke up early and went for a walk to Goat Island that takes you to the middle of the two falls. There were some breathtaking views. We were able to see both the Canadian and US falls. We even walked down to be under the US Falls.

It was SO much fun and so cold! Of course when we left Washington, DC it was warm so I was dressed in shorts and did not bring a jacket! (That was NOT smart). I refused to pay $50 for a cheap sweater I would never wear again so I toughed it out (and got some odd looks from other travelers all bundled up!) So, hint for any of you going to Niagara, bring a jacket.

Every once in awhile a big gust of icy spray would come up the falls and wash over us. It made a beautiful full rainbow, but it was so cold.

It was an adventure to walk down under the falls. They build this every Spring and take it down in the autumn because it will freeze. I am glad we could go see it.

Standing here and watching the millions of gallons of water go by, it was amazing. To think that 20% of the drinking water for the United States flows down these falls, it mind blowing. The power and immensity of the falls triggers all of our senses. You can feel, see, hear and taste the impact.
