Ramadan Break The Fast Street Food Tour

During Ramadan, practicing Muslims will fast from sun up to sun down for a month to bring themselves closer to God and strive to become better individuals. Once it his sunset, food and family time abounds! We joined several friends and did a street food tour in one of the Muslim neighborhoods in Mumbai. It was such a cool experience!

We decided to take Koala Bear and Lucky Dragon with us. One of the main reasons to live an international life style was to help them love and appreciate diversity. They ended up being the only kids on this trip! I was so proud of them that the remembered the rule we have at our house (passed down from Madre to me and from my Gramy to her) that we try everything offered to us. Even if it is just a little bit, but you try new things. They tried new things that may not have looked familiar, but they also learned to really like those new things too!

We all had a laugh that dinner for tomorrow came to join us while we ate!

They set up a table literally in the middle of the street. It was funny that by the time we started to eat there was a crowd gathering on the street to watch us! haha.

We tried so many different types of food! It made us all want to go back and try more!

Lucky Dragon liked this stop so much that he went to get a business card so we can get some for him again. It was mutton slow cooked in rice. The chef was so happy that he was willing to come get the card and loved his food!

We took a night walk through the Chor Bazaar. We had never been there during the night. Usually we are here in the day looking for goods. But it was fun to see the furniture piled high waiting to be loved again and then to taste more food on the other side of the short walk.

They had a version of Tongan Otai that was watermelon and papaya. It was delicious. We loved it.

This stop we did not eat. We just snapped a photo as we walked past. It was brains and testicles. I have tried brain before and the texture is not my favorite...and not sure I want to try testicles. But we stopped and looked, being grateful the tour guide did not stop there! HAHA

The desserts at this place were delicious! I can say that I have now found a sweet food in India that I really like. Up to this point I would tell everyone that I LOVE Indian food and savory spices, but I do not like the desserts and sweets. But this place proved me wrong! The blueberry dessert was amazing!

The fried egg panacake was a family recipe for the family that has been cooking them for the last 65 years. It was fun to hear their story and see their pride as they watched us enjoy them!

This was flavored soda. The green one was fennel and the one below was "masala" or mixed spices. They were both interesting. I am not sure if it was because I do not like soda or the flavors just did not do it for me, but I did not  like this stop.

Not Hawaiian shave ice, but it was delicious!!

The last stop was ice cream! We loved the guava and the mango!

It was such a memorable evening. We basked in the culture of the celebration and had some delicious food while we did it! So happy that we went!
