Safari In Sri Lanka: Land

For Thanksgiving we took a quick weekend trip to Sri Lanka. It gave us a chance to get out of the smog and pollution of the big city and into nature! We spent every moment possible outside! (Don't worry, I was fully covered--haha)

If you take out all the arguing I had to do with people that were trying increase prices suddenly, it was a really amazing trip! We landed early in the morning and after a quick nap we headed out for a safari in the Udawalawe National Park Reserve. It is a bit further away, in the southern central area of the island nation. But is was worth the drive! (Note to anyone going, make sure to have your trip already booked. There are several companies that go, they charge more at the place, so pre-book if possible.)

This time we did something different and we let the two Muggles have their phones. So this blog includes photos from all four of us. It is fun to see their perspective displayed on the trip.

We were able to see monkeys, crocodiles, elephants, a beautiful array of birds, water buffalo, butterflies, and peacocks.

It was so nice to be out in the blue sky and green grass and trees. You don't know how much you miss nature until you are without it for an extended period.

This herd of elephants was the highlight of the tour. We were able to see they all playing in the water together. It was fun to stop and take photos as video of them playing.

I thought that this was funny. Instead of "people crossing" or "deer crossing" or "cattle crossing" they have signs to warn about Peacocks crossing. HAHA
Sri Lanka is an amazing country. You get the delicious foods of the region but it is less crowded and cleaner than India.

As you can see, Lucky Dragon was also mesmerized by the sky. As we drove around the safari he was making creatures out of the clouds.

We stayed at a beautiful Marriott on the beach in Weligama. It is about a two hour drive from Colombo. But well worth the drive.   We loved it. From our room we could watch the surfers in the morning and the pool goers in the evening. No matter the time of day, the beauty was appreciated by all of us.

We may be from Hawaii, but we learned to surf in Sri Lanka! HAHA. It was a highlight of my trip to watch my two Muggles get on the surf board and ride wave after wave. They made it look so easy. Then when Lady Hiva and I tried we realized it was not as easy as it looked!
