In August when Lady Hiva was in Washington, DC for training the little Muggles and I decided to go to Hong Kong for a quick weekend trip. However, we ended up being there during the largest typhon since the 1940s and spent the duration of the trip locked into a hotel. Once we decided to go back we were glad that we could use the Disneyland Hong Kong tickets and explore the city!
Hong Kong Disneyland is a smaller Disneyland park, but it also means we can spend more time exploring and not feeling so rushed to try and do everything.
The Muggles were so excited to have their mum with us this time and show her all of their favorite aspects of the park. (We did get a half day of fun before we were kicked out for the storm last time).
We had to get the obligatory photo with the station and train as we walked in.
Like the rest of Hong Kong, Disneyland was still decorated for Christmas and played Christmas music the entire time we were there.
Cinderella Castle at Walt Disney World will always be my favorite castle, however, the Hong Kong Disneyland Castle of Magical Dreams is a close second. We love that they rebuilt the castle and included aspects of all the different princesses. We have fun looking up at the spires and seeing which princess they represent.
They do not have double strollers, so we rent a wheelchair to take us around. As with our strollers when we go to WDW, we name them. This wheelchair was blue, so we named in Nebula from Avengers. The second day we had a black one and named it Mantis. (You can tell the Muggles and Lady Hiva just finished an Avengers Marathon).
We were able to go to Frozen Land that opened up in November. By lucky chance we had gone there first thing in the morning. We are glad we did that because later in the day, they stop allowing people in because it gets too crowded. It was fun to see the depiction of Arendale and try the treats.
Turtle and his new friend "cat" joined us for the trips to Disney!
Lady Hiva was able to achieve her dream of seeing the Mystic Manor! She has always been a lover of the Haunted Mansion and had the goal of going to the Mystic Manor since we watched the "Behind the Scenes" Episode on the Haunted Mansion versions around the world. The ride did not disappoint. We went back and rode it several more times! Each time we rode it, we noticed new things.
Lady Hiva was so happy that some of the trees in the park were Mei (breadfruit) trees!
We were going to ride the Grizzley Gulch roller coaster (amazing ride) but they told me I had to take off my big hat. I had already done that and had a gator head covering under it. They told me I had to take it off too. I was confused bcause it is tight and I have been wearing it before on the same ride. They kept insisting so I finally told them I was not taking it off because I have cancer. They started to yell at each other in Cantonese and I could feel the flurry of activity behind me. I thought they were going to just kick me off the ride. They didn't. They came back with a black head dress (similar to a hijab) for me to wear. They made me put it on...even went so far to put it on for me! HAHA. Lady Hiva and I were laughing so hard on the ride we could not stop.
That being said, I learned that the covering was actually helpful and ended up wearing it with a baseball cap instead of my big sun hat for the rest of the trip!
Glad we brought books. These two read while we were waiting in queues.
We were all entertained by the Asian culture of taking selfies and the lengths people would go to get the perfect photo. Lucky Dragon perfected the hip pop and peace sign. We had many laughs as he demonstrated how people look taking the photos!
We tried many of the desserts. They looked pretty but they were so GROSS! At least I thought so. Lady Hiva loved them, but I was not a fan
We were able to talk with some characters that we had never seen before. Esmerelda was off hidden in a corner and we were able to talk with her.
We rode Jungle Cruise. We like the small adaptions from the American versions.
We went to the Disneyland Hotel and ate at the Crystal Lotus again. We love that the bao buns are shaped into characters. The food is delicious and fun too!
One of the things we did not expecting it to be as amazing as it was, was the Mickey and the Wonderous Book. It was a musical tour through all the iconic Disney classics. It was really well done. We loved the dancing and singing.
After we were done with the park on New Years Eve we waited and waited with thousands of our friends for a ride. The line for the train was over a kilometer long! The line for the taxi was not as bad but there were not taxis coming. So we waited. Finally about 0130h I rode a bus to the Disneyland Resort Hotel and had them book me a taxi. We went back and picked up Lady Hiva and the kids and finally made it to our resort. I am so thankful for the endurance of our children. And the fact that we had books to pass the time.
By happy accident we had purchased premium passes for New Year's Eve Day. The day before we had tried to use them but were told they were for New Years Eve Day. We were annoyed at the time, but then when we saw the crowds in NYE we were happy. It also gave us reserved seating for the concert and firework show counting down to the New Year! It made it so we had room for the kids to lay down and rest before the celebrations started. We were also only a few rows from the DJ that was welcoming the celebrations!
The drone displays for the celebration were amazing. We loved it!
