Peaches Are Just Better In Utah

Move over Georgia! Utah's peaches are far superior!

Ever since living in Istanbul, Lady Hiva has developed a love for fresh apricots and peaches. So we are always on the hunt for good fruit. This year she has bought apricots from several different people and is constantly pointing out EVERY apricot and peach tree we pass in Utah. (there are a LOT of them if you were wondering). It could be mid-conversation as we are driving she will "squirrel!" and yell out, "apricots~!" or "peaches~!" HAHA.

She has driven to great lengths from Brigham City in the north down to Mapleton in the south. We are learning all the correct questions to ask, "Are these local?," "What farm are they from?," "Are they freestone?" Lady Hiva is really good at making homemade jam with them too. It is bottled then frozen for the rest of the year.

This weekend was Brigham City's annual Peach Days Festival. Lady Hiva has wanted to go since we had a dear friend tell us about it. So we went. To be honest, it was not what I had expected. Brigham City is really cute. The downtown is a combination of pioneer historical buildings and some modern buildings. We parked next to the temple and the old tabernacle. Those two areas alone are worth the visit to town. It was beautiful.

We walked through the shops and stopped at the  historical library and bought some books. It is funny that our two Muggles love the library so much. So we drove all the way up to Box Elder County to read books! hahaha

We ate at a historical cafe downtown, "Idle Isle Cafe." We ate some delicious food, had fresh peach shake, and fresh peach lemonade.

On our way home we drove down the "Fruit Way." As we drove down we stopped at several of the fruit stands along the way. My favorites are small family owned and run farms. We bought pumpkins (the kids already carved them), cantaloupe, and of course some peaches. We had fun walking around and seeing the trees and vines growing new fruit. There is something exciting about seeing mother nature at work.

We then drove south via Willard Bay and all the small little towns along the edge of the Great Salt Lake. They are small towns that we did not even know existed!

 Raspberries in Lady Hiva's garden!
