In our traveling we went to Austria. We have been to Austria before but we saw different parts this time then we have seen in the past. We stayed in a small town Dornbirn on the Swiss and German borders. In the morning we went out to the farmer's market in the town square and did a little shopping.
There was a chapel (well several of them) and we met a group of kids that were selling salt and oil in preparation for King's Day, or the day of Ephiphany. We bought some salt from them. One of the boys spoke English so well and they were all happy to hear him use his English and that we were willing to donate some money to their church youth program.
This Red Inn, is one of the town's iconic buildings in the town square that was built in 1639! Today it is a restaurant. It was not open that early in the morning, so we just took some photos as we walked by.
W ate our King's Bread and Koala Bear was the lucky one this time!!
The next day we decided to drive back for 20 minutes and see Liechtenstein. It is another country that we have never been to in all our travels throughout Europe over the years. But we were able to knock it off our list! It was a beautiful drive through Austria. As we drove I could see the green fields that lead up to the snow covered mountains in the distance. It was beautiful. Several times I wished that I could just stop in the middle of the road and take photos. But even when I do stop, the photos never do the what we see with the eye justice!
We loved driving the length of Liechtenstein. The mountains in the background and the stone buildings along the roads. We loved it so much.
The Vaduz Cathedral was small compared to the others we have seen on this trip, but it was more intimate and immaculate.
We drove up the mountain to the castle that overlooks the valley. It is an old stone building. Sadly, we were unable to go in, but it was still a great drive and a beautiful view!
This building is the Red House in Vaduz. Again, you cannot go in, but it is one of the most photographed places in Liechtenstein. I can see why. It is so picturesque--even when we are seeing it under a winter cloudy sky. I am glad that we made the trek to Vaduz. We saw some new places and met some wonderfully kind people while we were there.
