Autumn--Lady Hiva Waited 3 Year For This!

I have always loved Autumn. I like the colors, the breeze, and the chance to wear a jacket that gives another layer of choice in your clothing style. Lady Hiva loves autumn too, but she loves the Halloween aspect of it. She has been trolling travel websites for weeks to find a farm experience. These three miss our season passes to Cornbelly's in Utah County.

She found one in Shenandoah valley. We also wanted to see some of the leaves changing so we made a day trip of doing it all.

We rode the tractor wagons, we did the tube slides, and of course the kids wanted to mine for gems.

They went right for the air pillow but it was quickly abandoned for the ropes course. They did that several times. They loved to have the physical and mental challenge.

Seeing all of the pumpkin varieties and the mums made us all wish we still had our front porch to decorate.

It was fun to see them make homemade cider from their apples they grew on the farm. We all learned new things from the demonstration. I knew that each apple has 5 seeds but what I did not know was that none of those seeds will grow a fruit bearing tree. For example, if you have a Gala apple and you plant the seeds from that apple, it would not grow a Gala apple. It would be a crabapple or some hybrid sour apple. To get a fruit bearing tree with the type of apple you want, you take a branch and a root from a good tree and graft it. It will be a fruit producer in 5-7 years.

It was so fun to all the types of pumpkins and squash. Our house now looks like a pumpkin farmer's cart tipped over! HAHA.

The drive was beautiful! We saw some amazing farms that we would love to live in. The trees were not yet colorful, but it was still a beautiful drive.
On a recommendation from a friend, we went to eat lunch at the Apple House. It was delicious BBQ food and apple flavored cakes and breads. It was a bit long of a wait because of the holiday weekend crowd. But it was worth it.

We ended the day shopping at the Valley Bookstore. It is a HUGE store with thousands of books at a VERY discounted price. I am so glad that we went. All four of us love books and to by them for only a few dollars is like a dream.
