A Trip We Did Not Cancel During COVID

We have cancelled several trips this year. It is odd for us as we love to travel as a family. This year we have not gone on any trips. But we had tickets to go to Hawaii to see Lady Hiva's parents. It was a really unique trip thanks to COVID restrictions.

Traveling on the airplane was different. There was hardly anyone on the flight, which is sad to see. But good that we had space to spread out. Then they have mask requirements. That makes it all the more uncomfortable. Hawaii has been really strict with COVID restrictions and you have to fill out documentation verifying that you do not have symptoms and that you are going to quarantine. I was so proud of these two little Muggles and how well they did on the long flights with all these new changes.

We had to laugh that as we went through baggage claim they flagged Lucky Dragon's bag. I could not figure out why as it was supposed to only have toys in it. They opened it up and he had brought a sprayer with him that our neighbor had given him. They have a pest control company and the new sprayer was faulty so he gave it to Lucky Dragon. Apparently, when we told him to choose a few toys to take with us, he thought that this was a good idea!~

If you are going to Hawaii thinking that you are going to holiday, now is not the right time to go. You cannot do anything until your quarantine in complete. As you step off of the plane they take your temperature before they even let you into the airport. Then you have to wait in a REALLY long line to sign your documents. They call your phone while you stand there so they can call you during the two weeks.
For us that was OK because we were just there to help Lady Hiva's parents at the house. Luckily, they have a big yard full of plants and trees to explore.

Lucky Dragon and Koala Bear also liked that they had their grandparents' undivided attention during the time that we were there.

When the day finally came that we could go to the beach we did! It was a day to celebrate!

One of the best parts of going to Hawaii during July is Mango Season! We love all the fresh mango--everywhere! It was so fun to have mango for snack, mango for lunch, mango for dinner, mango for breakfast! Lots and lots of mango.

Lucky Dragon and Lady Hiva found some gecko eggs outside in the garden while they were picking up leaves.

Of course in Hawaii it is all about the delicious food. While we were on quarantine, Lady Hiva's mum would bring us the food in stereotypical Styrofoam plates.  So much good food from all over the world!

This was a really sad sight. There are thousands of rental cars parked in the stadium lot because no tourists can rent them. It is sad to think about all of the money that is being lost and just sitting there.

Going out to Shark's Cove on the North Shore is a favorite for the kids!
