Peaceful Get Away To The Lake

We all had a weekend free--which is unusual. We also don't have many weekends left here in DC before we head off. We decided to get away. We had several options and the one that won unanimously was a trip to Lake Anna in Southern Virginia.

I remember coming to Lake Anna as a kid with my family and thought it would be fun to experience it together. We found a lake house and enjoyed a relaxing weekend. We swam, we fished, we lit the fire, we read books, we played games, and we ate good food! It was perfect!

After fishing and fishing and fishing...we accidentally caught  fish. It was dusk and we were all sitting around the fire and Lucky Dragon had set a line. It suddenly started to rain and he and I ran to get all the fishing stuff in...of course the line had a fish! HAHA. What a surprise!

Koala Bear went from fascination and wanting to touch it, to tears because it was "suffering." Because of the way the hook was in, we could not get it out while it was alive. The next day the desire to keep fishing was diminished quite a bit--haha. I am glad my sensitive children can see that we should not take animals of all kinds for granted.

We all are bit of pyromaniacs! HAHA. We had fire in the day and fire in the evenings. It was so great.

The view in this house is amazing. It had big walls of windows and plenty of natural light. We could look out over the lake--it was beautiful any time of the day.

There was a cassette player and some tapes. Koala Bear aged us a bit when she exclaimed "it is ancient history in real life!" So, we are officially ancient now. Haha

This is how I took a nap--thank you cancer for this gift! HAHA

We ventured out and toured all the little towns nearby. One of them was Louisa. They had a delicious ice-cream shop. It was so good we went back two days in a row! It was sheer perfection.
We went around Louisa and saw all of the history. There were plaques everywhere with history from the US. One that was interesting was the Old Courthouse. On the map it showed that there was a memorial for where slaves were sold. But it was gone! All that was there was a GIANT statue honoring the Confederate soldiers from the Civil War. Such an interesting message.

This story of John Langston was a really great story. I am glad that they had it there to honor his legacy.

We did our best to support the local places. We ate ice cream, went to the local grocery store, and had an amazing Mexican dinner at a hole-in-the-wall family run restaurant. It was so fun to meet all of these people and experience the way they do amazing things to share.

So strong the paddle broke!

It was so good to be out in nature. It was calming for all of our spirits to be there. We came back rested and ready for the weeks of busy life ahead.
